Testimonials

  • "It’s been such a pleasure to work with Melanie because she’s been such a good resource for me as a new mom. Whether it’s breastfeeding, sleep issues, or self-care — she’s there to help problem solve and offer advice. I also really appreciated that she’s open to discussing and acknowledging postpartum depression. It’s nice to meet a professional who’s so open about this topic. Melanie has a kind, calm presence about her that’s a balm to the discordant feeling that comes with having a new baby."

  • “Melanie was really incredible as a resource to me with my 2-month premature infant. She’s definitely the kind of lactation consultant you want there when you are struggling through those first days (& months) of mommyhood. I can’t thank her enough for all her help and advice on breastfeeding, infant sleep, self-care, stress relief, concerns about vaccination-related issues, encouragement to trust your motherly instinct, etc. I can’t say enough good things about Melanie!”

  • Use my 5 step process here!

It goes a little something like this:

    1. Fill out Baby Bonds paperwork and consent form.

    2. Check with your insurance using Lactation Network.

    3. Read my tongue tie guide... believe me, it’s worth it.

    4. Call me to set up your appointment.

  • Believe it or not, during the day that teeny baby needs to eat every 2-3 hours and about every 3-4 hours at night. This does not apply to every baby though! My prenatal lactation consults are tailored to your specific needs. For example, if your baby is struggling to gain weight, you’ll likely need to feed them more often. But whatever your situation is, we will get through it together!

  • Similar to the answer above… maybe. I know this is a common newborn question and for good reason — everyone needs to sleep! While it’s normal for babies to lose a little weight right after birth, it’s important they gain it back quickly.

  • If you’re experiencing a low milk supply, I usually recommend pumping after feeding at least 2x a day. This sends signals to your body to make more milk as if your baby was still nursing.

  • Some babies do okay with coffee. But if your little one is experiencing reflux, sleeping issues, gas, etc, it may be worth it to try without to see if you notice improvement. Ask me more about this during our consult!

  • If breastfeeding is going well, you can begin to use a pacifier around 4-6 weeks. But some babies need them sooner than that because they just like the extra comfort and it soothes them. I’ll advise you when we work together and I see how your baby is feeding.

  • If you don’t know what this is, don’t worry, you’re still a good mom! Antenatal expression is the process of expelling colostrum out of your breasts (and storing this gold later for your baby to have). I usually recommend starting at 37 weeks pregnant as long as it’s cleared by your medical provider.
